Indonesia is one of the top 5 coffee producers in the world. Coffee cultivation in Indonesia began in the late 1600s and early 1700s, in the early Dutch colonial period and has played an important part in the growth of the country. Being close to the equator with numerous interior mountainous regions creates well-suited micro-climates for the cultivation of coffee.

Our Sumatra Indonesia coffee is grown near Lake Toba, the largest volcanic lake in the world! The coffee is processed using Giling Basah, a wet grinding method that results in a coffee with a huge body, spicy aroma and hints of tobacco.

All of our coffees are fresh roasted and rested so you'll always be getting fresh coffee at the peak of its flavour.

Tasting Notes Tobacco, Smoky Spice
Country/Region Indonesia, Sumatra
Growing Altitude 760-1500 masl

What is tasting notes?

Tasting notes is not to be confused with actual flavour - There is a marked difference between the two. What tasting note describes is the subtle difference from the normal taste of coffee. For example, a coffee may be described as having notes of melon because it has a hint of sweetness and fruity flavour.

In addition, taste is subjective. Your own reference point for taste will be different to someone else's reference points and what you may describe as grapefruit aroma someone else may say citrusy aroma. So tasting notes are a guide and is subjective to each individual.

Specialty coffees are only deemed as such if they receive a Quality Score of more than 80 from the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA).
